Which Sport Aids Are Classed As Being Illegal?

Research and development are widely recognized in sport, as thrusting back the boundaries, that have revolutionized athletic preparation and development. From human psychology, to science and technology, all are used to enhance the world’s top athletes, in order to gain that extra advantage over their competitors.

Better medical support, training programs, financial support, plus permitted drugs have seen improved results in every sport. Lighter, more efficient movement enhancing, cooler clothing and footwear have helped sports’ performers to run, jump, glide, throw, lift, ride, climb, stretch, drive, paddle, cycle, higher, faster and stronger than ever before.

Athletes develop as they are exposed to various research, engineering, science and technology. Manufacturers of sport items, sporting academies, governments, universities, institutes and research units, invest thousands of dollars into producing and backing the best athletes.

Part of being listed among the top performers, includes the application and knowledge of, methods and advancements of the sub-disciplines for nutrition, optimization of performance and human movement, as well as understanding psychological issues, to mention only a few. Every area requires the help of trained experts, who advise, research, assess, evaluate and train all levels of sport, including how to recover from injuries, as well as injury prevention.

Professor Mainwaring, Dean of Research and Innovation, for RMIT University, Melbourne, Australi, said “Sports technology research includes aerodynamics and materials in engineering, through to physiology and human performance in biosciences, to improved accuracy and mobility in GPS in applied science”.

Banning of the use of full-body swimsuits, which is to take effect on the 1st January, 2010, will make people question what other scientific, technological, or engineering, is going to required to be removed from the field of sport? Specialized diet and exercise regimes, to watching your competitor perform on video, or medical check-ups, could all come under the classification of technology and science-assisted benefits to the athlete.

To try to compare results from 2010, with results from the 1930’s, would be like comparing a space ship with a 1930 ford car. Even the rules of sport have altered over the generations. How then can record breaking results of today and tomorrow, be honestly compared with the results of the past, as sports people keep thrusting back the boundaries at all levels?
